Prior to the release of Everything Is Borrowed, I was just listening to great music by a talented musician. Solid beats, witty raps and just the hint of genius. This album was the moment where I realized I was on a journey; The Streets were an evolution.

“The Hardest Way to Make an Easy Living” by The Streets.

Well, this pretty much sums up my life from 1999 to 2004. From DJs to Bands, I saw a lot of people trying to make an easy living in the world of music and I’m not sure how many of them realized just how hard the path was. Given that several of them are still humping the dream, I’m guessing they haven’t quite caught on yet.

“Can’t Con an Honest John” by The Streets.

I’ve often wondered what the relationship is between this song and “Same Old Thing” from Original Pirate Material, which includes the lines: “Can’t lounge in the boozer all day / Got maneuvers to make / Gotta see a man about a dog”.

It makes me hope that Mikey has tried to run this con before, preferably successfully.

“Empty Cans” by The Streets.

This track is brilliant. I often replay my actions and wonder how the outcome might have been different if I made even the slightest change. It would be great to rewind every once in a while.
